Spotify

Hiya. Long time no post - sorry about that.

So, what have we been up to since we last spoke? Well, you can now hear both of our albums in full on Spotify. Plus the remix of Yer Actual that was the B-side to the Sketchpads single.

We've also been in France playing the brilliant Northern Sounds festival for the second time. There are a few videos from our set on Youtube, and on Vimeo you can see footage of us doing an acoustic version of Youth Map on Lille's Radio Campus after having travelled to France on election night and had NO SLEEP.

The physical copies of our second album Smokers Die Younger sold out. We're getting another batch made, and will let you know how to get hold of one as soon as we've got them. Until then, you can still download it on iTunes.

In the meantime, we're playing for Drowned in Sound with Team Ghost on 1 June at the Harley. I wonder if this blogpost will get more hits if I mention that their EP cover features a topless woman...

Merry DiSmas

Hello, sorry for the erratic posting. How've you been? We've been fine. We played with Josh Pearson the other week. What a lovely man he is.

In other news, there's a new review of the album on Drowned in Sound. They've been nice to us in the past and they seem to like the new record too.

Unfortunately, due to the mysteries of The Internet and the idiocy of the band we haven't been able to sort out an online shop for the album yet. And we think we've invalidated all our Paypal accounts in the process. HOWEVER, if you would like to buy a copy for mail-order, email us at xwantsthemeat@gmail.com and we'll sort you one out. It'd make a lovely Christmas present eh?

Or you can come and see us play and get a copy without having to pay postage. Our next gig is in January, headlining the Sunday night of the last weekend at the beloved Shakespeare in Sheffield. It's a sad occasion, but it should be an awesome, weekend-long party. See here for details. Or search facebook for Last Hurrah Shakespeare.

Here's an ancient and poor-quality video of our shonky cover of Fairytale of New York. Merry Christmas.

Physical copies of the album available very soon

We're very excited as we've seen the beautiful artwork for the physical release of Smokers Die Younger. It's at the printers right now, and we'll have them for sale at the official album launch gig at the Shakespeare this Friday (23 Oct).

We'll be sorting out a mail order option for buying the CD shortly. We'll also be announcing dates around the country (and possibly outside it) soon, where you'll be able to get your hands on one. Here's a reminder of the front cover.

First copies exclusively available at the Shakespeare, Gibraltar Street, Sheffield on Friday 23 October when we will also be playing live. Supporting, we have the awesome Snowman (who are far too popular to be supporting the likes of us, but seem game), plus our erstwhile chums Walker. Should be good. Tickets available here.

London show

Our haphazard promotion of the new album continues. We're playing at the lovely Lexington this Thursday (1 October) with SFA affiliatesSibrydion.

More details here. And it's been recommended by Time Outmagazine! Hope to see some of you 'London-heads' down there.

Couple of bits

It's a Friday afternoon, you're probably bored and watching the clock, so here's a couple of things for you to read before the weekend starts.

SoundsXP get the prize for being the first website to review the new album. They reckon it's 'a magnificent collection of crafted, off-kilter songs that fit no known mould.' Read the review, which shockingly accuses us of laziness, a charge I would refute if I could be bothered, here.

And a very nice chap from Russia interviewed us recently. The resulting article is here. Or you can read Google's amusingly inept English translation of it here. Sample quote: 'Smokers Die Younger three years ago, aggressively making their debut with their distinctive longpleem "X Wants the Meat".'

Those of you who have tickets for the gig later, see you there. Those who don't, sorry, it's completely sold out. But we will be playing in Sheffield again soon. Next month in fact.

have a good weekend,

SDY

Album launch

Thanks to everyone who's downloaded Smokers Die Younger oniTunes so far.

We're launching the album with a gig slash party this Friday in a secret venue in Sheffield. Numbers are strictly limited, but if you wanna go, you need an advance ticket from here. It's £3.50, and you'll receive an email telling you where the gig's happening.

Then just turn up on Friday night, with your ticket number and refreshments of your choice. Oh yeah - it's a BYOB affair. So you can save your money for the album. There'll be a small quantity of physical copies for sale on the night.

Exciting guest drummer!

As our regular drummer Neil is going to be touring the USA with his other band Champion Kickboxer, at our next gig we'll be playing with Rob from 65daysofstatic. Rob's an amazing drummer, as anyone who's seen him play with 65days will attest, so we're dead excited about this.

Rehearsals are already underway, ready for the gig which is at theHarley in Sheffield on Wednesday 30 July.

Second album

Our second album, Smokers Die Younger, will be released in September. You can hear some songs from it at the Myspace now. More information to follow.
